Integrated Reefer News | Page 3 Frederik Holdt and Søren Mark from DTI’s Centre for Refrigeration and Heat Pump ” Technology and Centre for Industrial Materials Technology ran the inspection alongside MCI engineers. During the inspection, compressors and different controller types were disassembled, checked for conformity with specifications and visually assessed. MCI remanufactured products both look and feel of a different quality than those of the Søren Mark from DTI observed that the “MCI remanufactured products both look and feel of a different quality than those of the unlicensed producer”. unlicensed producer”. - Søren Mark, DTI’s Centre for Industrial Materials Technology Serious failings The items showing the greatest differences were the compressors. Even before disassembly, Frederik Holdt noted “non-licensed repaired parts did not provide a cover for the terminal block and the back appeared contaminated with aluminum corrosion products. The MCI compressor had been sandblasted to ensure a clean surface and connection”. The test team noted that the remanufactured OEM units were subject to mandatory “new for old” replacement of wear components. In contrast, the nonlicensed units were fitted with reused or repaired replacements. Other serious defects among unlicensed items included oxidation left on surfaces, reused terminal blocks, no charging of inert gas to retain positive pressure, minimal oil volumes and dirty residual oil. To ensure the long life, reliability and safe operation of Star Cool equipment, MCI strongly recommends the use of genuine new or remanufactured spare parts, purchased directly from MCI or our Service Network. Users should be aware that unlicensed repairs or allegedly remanufactured items will adversely affect performance and efficiency and may constitute a safety risk.
