Integrated Reefer News | Page 2 Over 80% market share happens for a good reason ‘‘ ‘‘ ‘‘ ‘‘ 25 years after launching the first MCI reefer box onto the market, this cutting-edge container has led and expanded the global market in refrigerated transportation. For valuable perishable fruit cargos, shippers, operators and growers have over the last 10 years turned to our Star Cool Controlled Atmosphere (CA) and CA+ solutions. Today, over 80,000 Star Cool CA systems are in use worldwide. Global coverage is now so extensive that we estimate there are currently around 125,000 shipments using this technology every year. Of these, some 90% originate from Latin America, most of them carrying high-respiring fruit like avocados and bananas, which is what the CA system was originally designed for. The introduction of Star Cool CA+ and the convenient Star Cool CA+ Service have expanded the markets further for customers when it comes to low respiring cargos like lychees, grapes and blueberries. In all this time with thousands of CA+ shipments, we have not received a single claim for damaged cargo – a firm token of quality and reliability. The usage of CA and CA+ has enabled us to develop a business in new markets for colombian shippers. Avocados to Japan and bananas to Korea are a couple of examples. We also appreciate the support from Star Cool local experts during a number of presentations and trainings making the customers confident. We are really satisfied and thankful for this support and hope to keep growing in the perishable markets together.” Ernesto Aramburu, Sales Director, Hapag Lloyd Colombia ‘‘ Here are a few recent testimonials from some of our valued customers and users: The presence and usage of Star Cool CA is increasing in Argentina as it enables reaching further markets through ocean transport with high quality products.” Federico Fernandez, Reefer Sales Excecutive, Maersk Argentina Controlled Atmosphere in Argentina is here to stay as current volumes from Peru are too high to compete with airfreight costs. Star Cool has good reception in the market and no issues so far.” Facundo Ramirez, Perishables Manager, LOGINET Argentina Starcool CA and CA+ are an important differentiator for Maersk, Sealand and Hamburg Sud in the fruit business. Here in Latin America, in addition to the regular use with bananas and avocados, we are opening new opportunities at origin, such as blueberries from Colombia, Mexico and Guatemala. And we are expanding our usage for other commodities such as flowers, mangos and melons, which helps our customers reach destinations with further transit time. From the beginning, we at Early Crop were focused in delivering best quality produce and this comes in hand with improving our supply chain, especially on maritime transport as volumes are increasing. In this sense, we trust Star Cool and their technology enabling longer transit times.” Early Crop, Argentinian Blueberry producer/shipper June 2020 ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has expanded its reefer fleet with an additional 500 Star Cool reefers, this time upgraded with Controlled Atmosphere (CA), supporting ZIM’s growth in new markets for perishable cargo. Michal Marcus, ZIMonitor Product Manager: “We are very pleased to diversify our ZIMonitor reefer fleet with MCI’s Controlled Atmosphere technology. These advanced units are specifically suited for sensitive products, such as blueberries and avocados, and will enable more customers to enjoy the advantages of ZIM’s exclusive ZIMonitor service, a first-class solution for high value, sensitive cargo.” Controlled Atmosphere Moving our operation away from bottles, and using a full injection at origin with Starcool CA+ has reduced complexity and increased satisfaction. We would not be able to grow if we continued to use tanks of Nitrogen as we once did, with the extra coordination work of arranging bottles to load onboard and require the vessel crew to administer these injections every few days. Using Starcool CA+ also requires no adaptation of our reefers as other technologies do, and keeps them structurally sound for a longer time. There is also no device, bottles, or other materials to retrieve at destination. It’s clear the market has received this technology positively, since we often receive inquiries for new settings, new applications to different commodities and new markets. Our mission is to care for our customers’ cargo, and using Starcool CA and CA+ products is an important part of fulfilling that mission.” Michael Mc Bride, Head of Reefer Specialists Latin America, Maersk
