NEWS Integrated Reefer 2nd quarter 2020 A world in transition By Søren Leth Johannsen, Chief Commercial Officer Dear Reader, I hope our newsletter finds you well. As most places begin to emerge from the Covid-19 crisis, we can hope to see global trade beginning to gather pace again. As expected, the reefer container business has proved largely resilient, as the world still needs to be fed and demand for healthy perishable produce remains high. Nevertheless, container operators are under increased pressure over the medium-term future as they seek to recover losses. In this environment, any tangible operational savings will obviously be welcome. This gives some context to our lead story on MCI’s recent major Star Cool order. Milestone Star Cool contract with Evergreen Following a comprehensive series of trials, leading Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen Marine Corp. has selected Star Cool as the approved reefer machine for their growing reefer operations. Evergreen’s initial order is for 1,800 Star Cool units, scheduled for delivery during the second quarter of 2020. Evergreen spent most of 2019 running live trials across their global network involving all relevant reefer machines. Once they had gathered the data they needed, the company conducted a comprehensive evaluation that ranged from the performance of the individual reefers to aspects such as cargo care and service support. We were delighted to see these extensive tests confirming that Star Cool had the lowest energy consumption of all brands, the fastest temperature pulldown and seamless customer service. Consistent reliability is the key MCI’s ability to provide fast and efficient service support anywhere in the world was a key factor in winning the Evergreen order. With that in mind, this issue also includes a story about how our service team have been managing to ensure the smooth flow of spares during the global crisis. This work is vital in maintaining the resilience of the global supply chain. Finally, we take a look at the progress made by another key tool in the maintenance environment: the Star Cool Service app. First launched just two years ago with fairly limited functionality, it was quickly expanded to include more advanced features. Today, it is proving indispensable in daily operations with shipping companies and container terminals worldwide. The last weeks and months have been incredibly difficult for many millions of people across the world and we at MCI would like to thank our customers, partners and suppliers as we all work together to tackle the tough challenges we face as an industry. We all hope that this situation is resolved as quickly as possible and that the consequences are minimised.
