NEWS Integrated Reefer 4th quarter 2018 Here comes digital By Søren Leth Johannsen, Chief Commercial Officer We are excited to announce that MCI will be launching the new Sekstant® reefer digitalisation service in 2019 to all operators using Star Cool reefers in their fleets. This move represents a big step forward for both MCI and for our customers. The strength of the offer comes from its integrated nature. Now we are adding an integrated layer of modem-based connectivity to create a true IOT platform. The enabler for our reefer digitisation service is our existing Star Cool controller. Today, this already provides a wealth of accurate information, such as real-time temperatures, atmosphere and kWh consumption, in combination with unique functionalities like the Intelligent Trip Inspection (ITI) and StarConomy. The operational reefer data that Sekstant® captures will be used to drive MCI’s product evolution and continuous development processes. At the same time, accurate and enriched real-time data will unlock digital value creation for operators throughout the reefer transport chain, with benefits for both top and bottom line. In an increasingly pressurized commercial environment among container operators, the added transparency that Sekstant® enables will play a vital role in protecting shrinking margins, maximising operational profitability and helping operators to achieve maximum use of their reefer fleet. Besides the launch of Sekstant®, I’m also happy to inform you that our Star Cool Service App is now available in the updated Version 3. The revised app offers operators even more features, for example using the Star Cool Connect dongle to connect to the unit instead of needing cables. Warranty claims can now also be logged directly from the app, then consolidated and submitted to MCI via the depot office. In addition to the other smart services, we have expanded our app family with the Box Inspection App. This app has been used as an internal MCI tool since 2015 in our technical department to make their inspection tours as efficient and effective as possible. We are now making this app available to operators, depots and leasing companies to enable them to instantly record the physical condition of their containers. In this edition, you can also read about our ‘triple refrigerant strategy’ based on the current Star Cool platform. In addition to the R513A alternative, which reduced Global Warming Potential (GWP) to 573, we have now embarked on the process of qualifying R1234yf, the new standard refrigerant for the automobile industry, for use in Star Cool. Controlled atmosphere remains high on the agenda across the reefer industry. At MCI, we have expanded our CA+ services in Peru, Chile and Argentina for managing the preparation of shipments of low-respiring commodities. We also sold over 8,000 Star Cool CA systems in 2018. As we move into 2019, there will be over 55,000 CA systems installed in Star Cool machines worldwide. I hope you will enjoy reading our Q4 edition of Integrated Reefer News.
