NEWSIntegrated reefer 2nd quarter 2017 Embarking on a Digitization Journey By Soren Leth Johannsen, Chief Commercial Officer MCI has taken the initial steps towards the wide scale digitization of our products and services. The built-in power meter has now been introduced as standard feature in the Star Cool controller. Combined with the release of our ITI (Intelligent Trip Inspection) software, we are beginning to unleash the potential of vast amounts of data that can be used in further reducing our customers’ operating costs and driving process excellence. The power meter will accurately measure and record the actual energy being used by Star Cool reefers during various operating modes, for both cost measurement as well as component performance mapping. ITI carries out self-diagnostics while the reefer machine is in normal operation carrying cargo – without any risk to the cargo being transported. continuously strengthened and to share important information and updates, MCI holds regular regional business meetings with the SP network. One such meeting was recently held in Qingdao, China, and met with an overwhelming response from over 120 attendees from 17 countries. Our service providers are the cornerstone of our growth and market penetration and play a significant role in the success of Star Cool. In this issue, you will also be able to read about some very interesting results about what happens to table grapes when they are exposed to high levels of CO2 as substitution for SO2 (sulphur dioxide). These tests were part of our efforts to avoid related damage to reefer containers and machinery, preserve the valuable organic status of fruit and, last but not least, circumvent potential health issues. When the conditions for test execution are fulfilled, ITI analytics are continuously performed and revalidated every 10 days. This enables the controller to indicate the unit’s readiness for the next trip. As is the case with any journey, more exciting innovations are expected along the way. There are now well over 200,000 Star Cool machines in operation with over 40 different operators around the world. This growth has been underpinned by the great support provided by the Star Cool Service Provider (SP) network. In coordination with Regional Star Cool Service Managers, this network handles all aspects of service, preparation, warranty and cargo care.
